Pentel Orenz Variations in 0.2 mm (will change later if I ever get either the Pentel PG-2 or the PS-1042)
This is one page because I am really lazy right now.
Anyways, the history of the idea of 0.2 mm pencils can be summed up in a quote from someone called Mint in the Fountain Pen Network, "Pentel introduced 0.2 mm mechanical pencils back in 1973, they've been around for [44] years. The first pencil was the PS1042, the second the PG2 and recently the Orenz. Besides these, I only know of other two 0.2 mm pencils. One made by Sakura and the other made by Tombow. I think they both date back from the 70's as well." If you want to feel smart about the knowledge of pencils, just analyze that quote and if you can find the other models made by Tombow and Sakura, you are amazing!
Anywho, the Orenz clutch is very basic, the clutch is metal (thanks to seeing that, I broke some lead) and 0.2 mm is excluded from the ten click test because lead will be broken anyways, plus there is a feature that really prevents the exposure of lead anyways. The Orenz clutch is very solid, as expected for anything in 0.2 mm.
The differences come with the features, the Orenz Standard has a metal clip, a clean out rod, a ribbed grip, and a sliding sleeve. The Orenz Rubber Grip has everything that the standard has, but the Rubber Grip, as mentioned in the name, uses a thicker rubber grip. Both metal clips are effective and thin, the cleanout rod is always good, especially in this tip size, and the sliding sleeve is awesome in 0.2 mm. Now, for the grip, the Rubber Grip Orenz has the edge, since it's more controlled for my handwriting. As for construction, both have a good construction with everything aside. As for both scores?
Would I recommend either of these pencils? Yes, especially if you want a fine tip. This is also available in 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm for a good look.
Is this on my personal list? The Rubber Grip version is.
