1. Find the ideal lead size for you, based on writing pressure, writing size, and range of mechanical pencils found in your preferred lead size.
2. Read multiple reviews first before making your choice on selecting your mechanical pencil (make sure to keep in mind note number 1).
3. When finding the mechanical pencil of your choice, determine whether it is easier to order online or to physically go into a store for your product. Most of my choices are from online sellers (again, keep in mind lead size). ​
4. If you decide on eBay, keep in mind the shipping times and the sellers' reputations so you do not get a faulty product (I had a bad experience with a rOtring 600 0,35 mm in Silver).
5. If you cannot find the pencil of your choice in any way or form, find another mechanical pencil similar in features (see Pentel PS-1042 and Koh-I-Noor Rapidomatic for more information).​
